Quality Level: Classic
Design: Traditional Forstner bit with centering point, two main cutting edges, and two closed peripheral cutting edges. Particularly low-friction due to the stepped peripheral cutting edge.
Tool Material: Alloyed tool steel
Recommended speed: 700 - 2800 rpm. e.g., Ø 35 mm: 1000 rpm in softwood.
Application: Clean, tear-free holes in softwood, laminated timber, etc. Particularly suitable for freehand use with a hand drill.
Tips, Special Features: This bit won first place in the large Forstner bit test in the USA by Fine Woodworking in April 2008. For hardwood, we recommend Bormax® Series 1622 or HM-Bormax³ Series 1663.
Contents: 15-piece set in a wooden case. Ø 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 25, 26, 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 mm
The Forstner bit:
The classic Forstner bit has a shaft, a stem, and a cylindrical drill head equipped with a centering point, two main cutting edges, and two opposing continuous peripheral cutting edges. These peripheral cutting edges have a pre-cutting effect, meaning they cleanly cut through the wood fibers, especially when drilling into soft and long-fibered woods, thus creating a clean, tear-free hole wall. Furthermore, the continuous peripheral cutting edge ensures that the drill is well guided when working with a hand drill. With good Forstner bits, it is easy to create partial circle holes on the edge of the workpiece without the bit wandering. It is also a good partner for holes that are not drilled at an exact 90° angle.
The Forstner bit is the ideal tool for drilling clean and precise holes of larger diameters in softwood.
FAMAG has been manufacturing Forstner bits for over 150 years, in addition to many drilling and milling tools for woodworking. During this time, we have accumulated a wealth of expertise and continuously developed our drill bits. Thanks to a sophisticated geometry and technical details, they generate significantly less heat than conventional Forstner bits. This added value significantly increases their service life.
